Imagining

As I sit in the silence of the woods
The mental silence
And start to see through the understory
With the sunlight illuminating the moss-covered floor
I begin to imagine another world
That lives in the terrain of the mosses
Exploring their hills and valleys
I am in miniature now
Down there seeing things for the first time
Or in new ways I haven’t noticed before
How life operates on scales I do not ordinarily see
That sitting quietly in the woods
Starts to open.
